Christmas Ornament Challenge 2026 Week Three: The Elf Hat Pattern

It's Week #3! This week, we're making....

The Elf Hat Pattern.

It's time to make a pattern that we introduced all the way back in 2019!

The Elf Hat will become a Christmas classic in your collection.. I think you'll really enjoy playing around with your fabrics to create the adorable swirls.

We've updated this pattern with a brand new eBook, and our new 'Bunny Gnome' variation!

These are so fun to embellish!

WERE YOU A CLUB MEMBER IN NOVEMBER, 2019? Do not purchase this. You automatically have access to this pattern in your Pattern Library!

Below, Kennedy gave her ornament a magical forest-y vibe by embellishing with leaf ribbon.

Make sure you scroll down to see the rest of the OG Team's ornaments.

Your turn!

Your challenge is.... to make your own Elf Hat ornament using your 3 chosen fabrics.... you can arrange your fabrics like we have, or better yet, mix it up!

If you don't know how to make the Elf Hat pattern, you can find it at its very special price, this week only!

(Already own it? Access it HERE. If you aren't sure if you own this pattern or not, simply click this link and see if you have access. Make sure you're logged in!)

Then, show me what you've got by posting it on Instagram using the hashtag #OrnamentGirlsChallenge so we can all see it!

(And, if you're an Ornament Girls Club Member, please post it in our private FB group!)

I'll see ya in a week, with Challenge Pattern #4.

Happy Ornament-ing!

Staci Ann

p.s. If you bought your foam ahead of time-based on the Supply List I gave you, this week uses a Soft Foam Cone.

Asking for coupon code can’t find my coupon code must have deleted it by mistake

    • Sarah Cinocco on October 12, 2026 at 12:46 pm

Hi Susan, I’m so sorry you’re having some trouble with your coupon code! You want to be sure you’re including the OGMember- before entering the number letter combination. That is the most common reason to get that error message. If you’re still having trouble, please e-mail us at staciann@theornnamentgirl.com and we’ll be happy to help!

Hi Guys….. when I insert my coupon code, it says it doesn’t exist :(. Not sure why, I believe I have used it before. Can you help?

    • Sarah Cinocco on October 12, 2026 at 12:47 pm

Hi Mary, I’m so sorry about any trouble! The most common reason we see a coupon code not work is because it is missing the OGMember- before the number and letter combination. If you are entering it in with that part first, it should work, but if you’re still having trouble, please send us an e-mail to staciann@theornamentgirl.com and we’ll be happy to help!

Hello, Is this the same pattern as the March 2024 Christmas Club one, I have access to that but not in the regular pattern library. If it is great if not then i will need to purchase it, I just don’t want to purchase it if it is the same one.

    Thank you Susan

    • Sarah Cinocco on October 12, 2026 at 12:51 pm

Hi Susan, I’m happy to help! We did make the Elf Hat in March of 2024 of the Christmas Club, so you could absolutely use that video tutorial to create yours for the challenge. The Christmas Club workshop page will not include the bonus videos for the Bunny Gnome variation, Witch Hat variation, or the eBook, but if you are just looking for the video to walk you through without those extras, than that March 2024 page will work great!

Can I get my ornament code I cannot locate it. Thank you.

    • Sarah Cinocco on October 12, 2026 at 12:55 pm

      Hi Linda,
I am going to send you an e-mail with your coupon code included. Please let us know if you have any trouble!

These are so darn cute! if you leave off the pointy edge at the bottom you could use them as Birthday party hats or New Years hats. Love the gnome. Too cute. I’m going to make a bunch and use them as table decorations at our Christmas party, them door prize them off at the end of the party. You all are so creative.

    • Sarah Cinocco on October 12, 2026 at 12:56 pm

That is such a cute idea Nancy! I’m sure they will be a big hit at your party!

My coupon code won’t work either. Says it doesn’t exist.

  8. cindy sweeting on October 12, 2026 at 1:56 pm

My problem is the same as everyone else, the coupon code. I also ordered “Hoppine Around” pattern. If someone could look into this for me I’d appreciate it. Cindy Sweeting

      Hi Cindy,
I’m so sorry about any trouble while you were placing your order! It looks like you e-mailed us about this as well, and I wanted to let you know that we have processed a refund for the coupon discount. I’m so sorry again about any trouble!

Cannot make the Elf…do not have the foam!!

  10. Sandy on October 13, 2026 at 12:49 pm

I thought we would be able to view the supply list and video to complete the ornament. Will we need to purchase all the patterns if we do not have them?

    • Sarah Cinocco on October 14, 2026 at 9:22 am

Hi Sandy, I’m so sorry for any confusion! Our challenges do typically use a mix of free patterns and paid patterns. For the paid patterns, we do put them on sale that week that the pattern is featured.

OK. I know I have seen an elf hat on the website somewhere that the points on the band curve out a little. I thought this was very cute. Well I can’t make my points do this!

How can I do this? Stacy’s hat does it a little. I was thinking of hanging a bead or ? on the tip, but am concerned they will droop more and more.

Hope someone there has an idea for me. Susan

    • Sarah Cinocco on October 15, 2026 at 10:09 am

Hi Susan, was it the original version of this pattern possibly? You can find it here:
      https://theornamentgirl.com/blog/quilted-ornament-ideas/november-2019-elf-hat/

While I don’t know exactly which photo you saw, I’m happy to help with some ideas! We aren’t using any special technique to get those points to pull away from the cone. I think the biggest factor will be the fabric. You will want something thinner that won’t hold the stiff shape as well.
You could also try heating the fabric up a little bit with an iron and then holding it in position while it cools to help train it where you want it to be. I hope that helps!
