Frequently Asked Questions & Answers.

If you have a question about anything on this website, the answer might be below. If not, please feel free to contact me!

The top of your website says I can get a free pattern, but I don’t see where. How do I get it?

You can get it by signing up for my email list, right HERE.

I’m trying to join the Ornament Girls Club, but it says “Sold Out”. How do I join?

I open up for new members every month on the 1st, at 12 Noon Eastern Time. At that time, you’ll want to go HERE to join. I design and make all of the kits totally by hand, and so I am only able to let a limited number of new members join each month – so far the spots have gone pretty fast each month. If you do get through the payment process though, that means you’re in!

If you don’t make it in, I am sincerely sorry. I am not able to accept members after the spots have sold, or throughout the month, as much as I wish I could. I’m purchasing and planning for each kit very far in advance, which means I’ve got a set number of kits to send out each month.

I do plan for extra kits (so I can make sure I have enough to cover shipping mishaps, etc), and so once all members are taken care of each month, I will list any extras in my online shop.

Are these quilted ornament patterns really no-sew?

Yes! These ornaments are made entirely by folding and pinning tiny rectangles of fabric. You will not need needle, thread, or sewing machine, unless you would like to add your own sewn embellishments. However, I myself am not a big sewer. Almost every single ornament you’ll see on this site from me does not have one sewn stitch on them. :)

I’m overwhelmed! Which pattern should I start with?

Every tutorial covers the steps from beginning to end, and you won’t need to have already learned one in order to do another….. and so with that in mind, if there’s a particular one you’d just love to try first, definitely go give it a whirl!

But, if you’re still having a hard time deciding, I’d recommend trying the Quilted Ball Ornament tutorial first. It has the least amount of “layers” out of all the folded fabric projects, and in my opinion is the most versatile… once you make one, you’ll be wanting to make them for every single holiday and occasion you can think of. :)

(By the way, you can see all of the patterns I have available right HERE.)

How much fabric does a quilted ball ornament take? And, can I use my fabric scraps?

A quilted ornament will take about a quarter yard of fabric all together. My basic quilted ball pattern uses two different fabrics, a main pattern, and an accent pattern, and you’ll need about an eighth yard of each.

And, yes! They are an absolutely perfect way to use up your fabric scraps. Check out this blog post for more info and some super cute & inspiring ideas for utilizing your scrap stash!

What materials and supplies do you recommend for your patterns and for the other ornament projects here on the site?

I’m glad you asked! I’ve made a special page just for this. You can see it right HERE.

How long are your patterns?

Most of the patterns are about 40-50 pages long. That sounds like a lot, but it’s because they are very picture-heavy, and that is what is taking up the most space (My tutorials ALL include very big, close-up, easy-to-follow photographs). A couple of the patterns are larger than that (such as the Pinwheel Pattern), but are broken into separate files, in order to keep them from being too cumbersome to download.

Why do I do it this way, even though the result is a very long tutorial? Because, it makes it SO simple to learn the techniques. You’ll feel like I’m right there beside you, teaching you every step. (Here’s some feedback I’ve received.) And, you’ll be able to take your time, simply scrolling to the next step when you’re ready.

I don’t like to pay online. Do you accept checks?

I happily accept checks or money orders. I will email your patterns to you as soon as your payment has cleared. If you’d like to go that route, simply go through the checkout process as normal. You will be given the option to mail your payment.

May I sell the ornaments I make using your patterns?

Absolutely! The techniques for these folded fabric ornaments have been around for ages, and I claim no ownership over them. My tutorials and patterns will simply teach you my own methods that I’ve developed over the last 20 or so years, that will help you save materials, time, and frustration, AND help you perfect your own creations. :)

So, yes, I would love for you to start selling them! I have been selling them online for 10 years now, and they sell extremely well. In fact, they have supported my family. (If you’re interested, you can read more about that right HERE.)

If you make any items using any of my original designs (and what I mean by that, is if you make an exact replica of an ornament I’ve made), I kindly ask that you give me credit for the design, with a link back to this website.

Under no circumstances are you allowed to share my patterns though, or post them anywhere online or offline, as these are protected copyrighted works. I appreciate your respect of my work!

(By the way, I DO offer an affiliate program, if you’d like to promote my patterns and earn 50% of the sale. You can read all about that right HERE.)

I’ve been trying to buy an ornament or kit, and every time I visit, they are sold out. How do I get one?

Ornaments and kits tend to go pretty fast, and I’m so sorry if you’ve been trying to get one and haven’t been able to. I usually post pictures of any new ornaments (or kits) on Facebook, so I’d love for you to follow me there if you’d like to receive the updates. I also occasionally have a bigger collection of ornaments available, and if you’d like to make sure you don’t miss those, I’d definitely recommend getting on my email list. :)

I also now have an Ornament Girls Club! This is how you can be guaranteed to receive my newest ornament kit every month (and at a lower price than in my shop, too!). You can find out more about becoming an Ornament Girl, right HERE.

How will my ornament be packaged?

Each ornament will come to you in a custom, foil-embossed, white gift box, so perfect for gift-giving (or keeping for yourself!). Each ornament is tagged with a tiny “OG” (ornament girl) charm, and includes a dated name card, signed by me.

Do you take custom orders?

Unfortunately, not anymore. I am just not able to fit them into my schedule any longer. I have good news though….you can make your own! (You can do it, I promise!) I have a tutorial which makes these ornaments easy-peasy. You can read about it right HERE.

I emailed you DAYS ago, and I haven’t received a response. What’s going on?

I am so sorry in advance if this happens. I get a TON of email every day, and it usually takes me a few hours a day to reply, even on Saturdays and Sundays. Sometimes I get a little behind, unfortunately, and I do also occasionally take a day or holiday off.

I do answer customer service questions and problems as soon as I see them. So, if you have not received a pattern, or if there is any other problem with your order, I will do my absolute best to reply as soon as I possibly can. Sometimes if I’m a little bit behind, and for the sake of getting some ornaments made, I will put other, non-customer service, emails a little further down the queue….. I TRULY apologize if it takes me a few days to get back to you. Every single email I receive is important to me, and I WILL respond, I promise.

(If you NEVER hear back from me, it could be because there was a typo in your email address when you filled out my contact form. If your email address isn’t correct, my reply to you is probably floating around somewhere out in cyberspace!)

Where do I find the shopping bag?

    • Staci Ann Lowry on January 11, 2015 at 3:34 am

Hi Kathy…. The shopping bag should be showing in the bottom right corner of your screen, if there are any items in it, and if not, then you’ll be able to add items to it from within my shop, which is right here: https://theornamentgirl.com/blog/shop/

      I hope that helps!

    Hi Staci
I was wondering if you knew when you were going to make more of the Star of Hope and Magic? Pam

    • Staci Ann Lowry on October 14, 2015 at 10:44 pm

Hi Pam…. I believe I am out of the Star of Hope ornament for good. I will look to double check, but I think that’s the case.

I WILL have more of the Magic ornament, by about Monday or Tuesday of next week. :)

A friend of mine is interested in learning how to make the quilled balls. I purchased the patterns and am wondering if I just show her how one time, without copying the pattern for her, do I need to be an affiliate? Becoming one looks a bit complicated. I don’t want to break any copy write laws.

    • Staci Ann Lowry on October 19, 2015 at 12:49 pm

Hi Donna…. Yes, that is fine. I just ask that you don’t distribute my eBook (printed or digitally). Thank you for asking! :)

      • Donna Gilbert on October 20, 2015 at 2:10 pm

As you will see I just signed up to be an affiliate. It turns out my friend and I might not be able to get together after all but figured it couldn’t hurt to direct her to your site and get paid for it if she chooses to buy the patter. I plan on making some balls and selling them as a fundraiser for Relay for Life and some just for Christmas. I figure if enough people are interested and really like the balls it might be an easy way to make some money. As you will see in my post, I need help setting up my site. Please help!

        • Staci Ann Lowry on October 20, 2015 at 4:16 pm

Hey Donna! I am going to send you an email later tonight if that is okay with you. I want to make sure I can take the time to answer all of your questions about the program and hopefully get you set up!

  9. Donna Gilbert on October 20, 2015 at 2:07 pm

I just signed up to be an affiliate and am excited about it but not sure how to start getting it started. I thought when I went to my affiliate link I was suppose to get a site that allowed me to use banners and ads to choose and allow me to use my own pictures. I’m basically just getting all of your photos. I’m confused. I’m very new at trying to start an on-line business and could really use the help. What am I doing wrong? What do I need to do to set up my own website and would that cost me anything?

    • Staci Ann Lowry on October 20, 2015 at 4:17 pm

Hi again, Donna! I just sent you a reply on your other comment. Look for me in your inbox a little bit later tonight! :)

    Hi Stacie,
I love your ornaments. Can’t wait to try them. I have the 9 tutorials in my shaping bag but having problems with PayPal.
Can I pay for my tutorials with my credit card? PayPal says I have an account, but I do not remember signing up.
    Many thanks,
    Donna.

    • Staci Ann Lowry on November 30, 2015 at 10:36 am

Hi Donna… Yes, you can use any credit or debit card that you wish with PayPal, and you can bypass all the “account” stuff by choosing to “checkout as guest”. I hope that helps, and thank you!

I can only find the 2.8 inch diameter styrofoam balls for making the quilted ornaments. Is there an adjustment in the size of the fabric pieces I should make to have it come out more even? Also, will you please make the red/green Xmas quilted ornament pattern available for sale? I don’t need an ornament pattern every month but I would definitely like that one!

    Thanks.

Staci, I was looking for something to tell me about how many squares I would have to cut for the larger styro trees . I bought 2 7/8 in x 5 7/8 in and a 3 7/8 in x 8 7/8 in. I thought someone had posted some where about how many you would need. After making the January one I think I’d like to try to tackle the 2 I bought back in Nov. . I bought a bunch of Ribbon too so I think I’m ready :). If you can give me any ideas I’d love to hear them, thank you for all you do!!

  30. Jennifer L Davis on December 11, 2018 at 10:05 am

I’m ready to make my first ornament. My sister tried one and said it fell apart rather easily as the pins apparently didn’t hold well in the rough ball. Do you have any tips to avoid that? I want to make some but not if they will fall apart. Please help.

    • Staci Ann Lowry on January 28, 2019 at 6:59 pm

Hi Jennifer.. Hmm. I have actually never had an issue with the pins not staying in the rough foam balls (and I’ve made thousands!). I’m wondering if there was perhaps some other issue with the ones your sister made that may have caused this to happen? Hard for me to know without seeing it, but I have definitely never had that issue. I hope you’ll go ahead and give it a try for yourself! :)

I am Barbara Fredette from New Hampshire. I cannot seem to get into my patterns anymore. Did something change on your end?
I can see your patterns that say I do not have access bu when I try to go to my pattern library it keeps going back to login. Then it wants me to change password and you would send a link but it says my page is outdated with the number (09001). How do I access my patterns to work on them
    Please advise
    Thank you for your time
    Barb Fredette

    • Sarah Cinocco on October 30, 2022 at 4:51 pm

Hi Barbara, I am so sorry that you are having trouble accessing your patterns! That error message can mean that you need to clear your browser history and cache. If you are able to give that a try, and still have trouble, please send us an email to staciann@theornamentgirl.com and we would be happy to help get you back to ornament-ing. Thank you so much!

What is the difference between the Ornament Girls Club and the Christmas Ornament Club?

    • Sarah Cinocco on September 25, 2023 at 12:48 pm

Hi Bobbie, the Christmas Club is made with patterns we have done before and you receive a kit each month. The Ornament Girls Club includes a brand new, never made pattern, but does not include a kit.

I saw someone post a picture and the pattern for a soccer ball. I don’t know where to find it and who made it.
