12 Weeks of Christmas Ornaments Challenge 2024 Week 9: The Snow Crystal Pattern

It's hard to believe, but we only have a few weeks left of this ornament challnge!

For Week 9, we're making...

The Snow Crystal Pattern.

This pattern was introduced nearly 4 years ago, and we felt it was finally time to unveil this beauty outside the OG Club.

And like so many of our patterns, this one can look SO different depending on how you arrange your fabrics. You can create a snowflake design like our original ornament from back in 2021, but you can end up with a Poinsettia flower if you simply layer your fabrics differently! (Scroll down to see examples of this from the OG Team!)

Don't forget... If you were an OG Club Member when this pattern was introduced back in February 2021, you already have access to this pattern in your Pattern Library. (in other words.. don't buy it!)

But if not, don't worry... now is your chance to get this beautiful, previously club-only pattern.

Here's one of the gorgeous 'Poinsettia' versions of this beautiful pattern, from Olivia (it's amazing that this is the SAME pattern as the original, right? When she first gave me all her ornaments to photograph, I had to ask her which pattern this one was! lol):

Your turn!

Your challenge is.... to make your own Snow Crystal ornament using your 3 chosen fabrics.... you can arrange your fabrics like we have, or better yet, mix it up!

Remember, if you don't know how to make the Snow Crystal pattern, you can buy it at the special price for this week only!

Then, show me what you've got by posting it on Instagram using the hashtag #OrnamentGirlsChallenge so we can all see it!

(And, if you're an Ornament Girls Club Member, please post it in our private FB group!)

I'll see ya in a week, with Challenge Pattern #10.

Happy Ornament-ing!

Staci Ann

p.s. If you bought your foam ahead of time-based on the Supply List I gave you, this week uses a 6-Lined Ball. But, don't worry if you don't have a pre-lined ball... this one can either be done without lines, or you can draw your own.)

p.p.s. Here are some of the OG Team's Week #9 ornaments:

Darlene's beautiful pink & gold Christmas Snow Crystal, and her festive patriotic version:

Tanya's adorable Halloween and Christmas Snow Crystal ornaments:

Kennedy's adorable vintage rose-themed Snow Crystal:

Elizabeth's elegant red & gold Snow Crystal (she did the Poinsettia version, too!):

And my Christmas-y Snow Crystal ornament:

      Thank you so much Linda!

Elizabeth’s looks very much like the Victoria ornament from when I first got into the Christmas club. It may be because the fabrics are similar. They are all gorgeous. I hope mine will look half as nice as these.

Hi Diana, we’re so glad you are feeling inspired!

What is the fabric count for this pattern using three different fabrics?

    • Sarah Cinocco on November 25, 2024 at 4:02 pm

      Hi Jenny,
There are several different ways to use three fabrics with this pattern, so there isn’t going to be one answer. The amount of fabric you use will depend on how you want your ornament to look.

I’m interested in making the Snow Crystal for week #9 with the three color pattern that Staci Ann used… how many of each size pieces are needed? I can’t figure it out. Thx

    • Sarah Cinocco on November 25, 2024 at 4:06 pm

      Hi Stephanie,
      Staci Ann used:
      Cream: 24 pieces
      Red: 36 pieces
      White: 24 pieces
You’ll want to consult your pattern to make sure your colors match up with the layers and sizes properly. If you need any help, please let us know and we’ll be happy to help out!
