Back during the summertime, I challenged myself to make a bunch of different ornaments out of the same 3 fabrics.
It ended up being way more awesome than I expected! After a couple of years of focusing almost entirely on coming up with new ornament ideas for our Ornament Girls Club Kits each month, it was so much fun to make a big bunch of ornaments purely for the joy of it. I felt like I went back in time for a little bit.
The best part was that some of you decided to do it right along with me, and made your own set of 12 ornaments.
So I've decided to do it again with CHRISTMAS fabrics (yay!), but this time, I'm making it a challenge for you, too!
I hope you'll join me.. if you do, then by the end of it (and just in time for Christmas), you'll have a set of 12 beautiful, matching ornaments, each made with a different pattern!
Last time, I made a new ornament every single day, which was a little bit tough (life happens after all!), so don't worry.... this time around, we'll be making one ornament per WEEK.
How will this work?
Each week, starting next Monday, October 1st, 2018, I'll send you an email telling you what that week's challenge pattern is, and I'll show you photos of mine to hopefully inspire you and give you some ideas.
(Not on my email list yet? Well, what are you waiting for? Join me RIGHT HERE. <-- psst. Joining my email list gets you a free video workshop!)
When you make each week's ornament, you can share it with me (& all the other participants) on Instagram using the hashtag #OrnamentGirlsChallenge (and if you're an OG club member, please also share in our private group!)
What will you need?
In order to make all 12 ornaments, you will need...
1. About 2 to 2-1/2 yards EACH of three different fabrics (this is an approximation - you may use slightly different amounts depending on how you arrange your fabrics on your own ornaments. You can get a little extra if you want to be on the safe side!)
****I recommend 3 fabrics that contrast highly with each other. (I've got some examples at the end of this post)****
2. A LOT of straight pins. I would go ahead and buy yourself a nice big one pound box from HERE.
3. Eleven 3" round foam balls, & one 4-1/4" tall foam cone.
4. Whatever embellishments you'd like to use for all 12 ornaments (I'll be using beads, and ribbon bows. I'm going to use the same embellishments for all 12 ornaments.)
5. Each week's pattern (hint: the first week will be the FREE Basic Star pattern)
What if you don't yet own each week's pattern?
I don't want to leave anyone out, so in order to make this as accessible as possible for everyone to make along with me, each week's pattern will be available at a very special deal! The special price will be for 2 days only each week, on that week's pattern. I'll send you a link to each week's special deal when I send you your weekly challenge email.
Each week's email will say [Ornament Challenge Week #] in the subject line so you can spot it easily!
(If you've never tried one of my patterns before.... they are FOOLPROOF. And many of them come with full-length videos, too. So, no worries.. you WILL be able to make these ornaments along with me. :) )
So.. will you join me for this? It's gonna be fun!
Here are the fabrics I'll be using for the challenge. They're called Precious Metals by RJR ... we used these for our September Ornament Kit, and I love them so much, I want to make a whole set of ornaments with them. But... I might be doing a second set with some red, green, & white fabrics too. I'll keep you posted!
Aweome
I thought I was already signed up for the 12-week challenge but did not receive week 1 yesterday. With club sign ups yesterday I know you were busy.
Please spend Week 1 challenge and the other 11 weeks as they become available.
Yesterday I tried to give the monthly ornament girl club membership but could not do it as my credit card did not match her mailing address. We worked it out and she paid. Maybe you could add both a billing and shipping address to the sign up page.
Even though I have made ornaments for 30 years I think 12 week challenge and the Ornament Girls Club sound so exciting1
Thanks!
Sherry inabinet
I would like to try this! Not sure if I can keep up but will do as many as possible!
I think I would like this.
awesome can’t wait havent done any for a while need this now
Will love doing this challenge. Count me in!!!!
Awesome!!
What will this cost please.
Eve, the only cost is the cost of your supplies and if you want to buy any of the patterns that you may not already have.
How much will the patterns be? I don’t have any of your patterns and need to see if I can even afford to do this.
Thank you, thank you, can’t wait to make them for Christmas gifts.????
I can hardly wait! Have lots of Christmas fabric!
I can”t wait for this!! If I am already a member of the OG club and on your email list will I need to sign up again?
Leisa, nope, if you are already on the email list, you’ll get these challenge emails!
I think this sounds great!
This will be fun! Thanks Staci Ann!
This will be fun!
This sounds like great fun, and I have some great fabrics in my stash that will be fun to play with. I need to order the foam balls and cone, but the links didn’t work – can you let me know the name of the site to order them?
Patty, I’m so sorry… I just fixed the links!
When you did your first challenge this summer, one of the ornaments you called the “Spiral Star”. Have you come up with a pattern for it yet ? An E-Book and Video ? I am fairly new at this and do not have the creative mind others have, YET :) Look forward each and every month for the new patterns and Kits. You are so creative and I just LOVE everything you do. You and Monica are A.W.E.S.S.O.M.E. You also mentioned you were going to revamp the Spiral pattern. Any luck with that yet ?
Thank you so much! I did indeed revamp the Spiral Star.. it has a new name and I will have both an eBook & Video to be released coming up soon! I’m glad you liked it!
I think this is a great idea, Staci. I will try my best to keep up. I love making your ornaments. It is so relaxing. Thank you very much for offering this. Norma Jean
Can not wait to get started.
How much does this cost. Since I am SS my money does not go to far.
Thanks,
Jo Ann
Jo Ann, I understand. This is free, and just for fun… the only cost is the cost of your supplies and if you want to buy any of the patterns that you may not already have… and I believe you have most of my patterns already. :)
Sounds like fun! I’ll be joining in!
Great your ornaments are lovely.
Sounds like fun!!
I would love to do this….Where do I start?
Melody, the first email will arrive to you on Monday, Oct 1st! So glad you’re joining in!
I’m in
I’m in as well.
Perfect to get myself some “me” time…much needed right now!
That’s great, Michelle!
Yes, I’m in. Sort of new to this and am looking forward to the challenge. Can’t wait.
Looks like fun.
Sounds like great fun. I shall analyze my stash for possibilities.
I am new to the club. I have only been a member 2 months so I don’t have many patterns. I have practiced the basic star and the Sept. ornament. I hope I can do this. Sounds like fun.
Excited!
Looking forward to doing this with you
Judith
What a wonderful birthday present! (announced on my b-day) I definitely be joining. Sue D
I can’t wait do you know when you will have more cones in? I would like to purchase all of them at once so I only pay shipping once. Thanks for all you do!
This is the first challenge I’ve done amd I can’t wait! I ordered my fabrics from MSQC and hope they are here by next Monday ao I can get started.
I’m way late starting the challenge due to family issues mostly because my daughter was in a serious car accident {husband was out of town on business – intense seminar, unavailable for a week). It was extremely stressful both physically & emotionally taking care of her, paperwork, running around getting things done for insurance and getting it to collision. No time to do the challenge at that time nor pick out fabric. Sleep was very little. I would gladly like to start the challenge as I just am catching up with my email. I joined Instragram and checked Facebook as you suggested. Can you please let me know where to find the weekly challenges so I can start or am I too late? It would probably take me into the beginning of December but I really want to try. I understand if I missed this. I can go to my favorite quit shops tomorrow and pick out fabrics for the challenges.
Wow! Not sure how I missed this email. The beautiful fabrics alerted me. Thank you for sharing. I will do my best to keep up. I hate cutting which is why I love your monthly kits. Off to the store I go!
I am going to try this. A bit nervous but maybe it will get me started so I can make all the ornaments in the little white boxes I’ve been collecting. LOL!!! Can’t wait to see everyone’s
ornaments.
Yes, count me in!
I’m in for the challenge! I am going to try it with only ribbon!
I’m in for the challenge! Shopped on Saturday and actually purchased 2 different sets of 3 fabrics – one set for me and one set for my daughter’s pre-Christmas present in her new house.
I’m definitely in, but got a little bit of a late start ordering my fabrics because there are just too many gorgeous Christmas fabrics out there!!!
How can I share my challenge pattern ornament if l dont do Instagram.
Yes!
I didn’t get an email last week, but I’m in. I just posted my week 1 ornament and I am looking forward to week 2 :-)
I just found out about the Christmas challenge. Is there any way I can still get week two’s pattern? How much does each weeks pattern cost? I’ve been doing ornaments out of my Nursery flannel fabric personalized for each of my great grandchildren. They’re not in Christmas fabric but they’re still turning out really cute. The five babies that were born this year I’m actually putting the birth dates on the back of the ornament and for the rest of them I’m just putting 2018 on the back with their names on the front. By the way do I need to be able to use Instagram for any of this stuff? I joined in August in time for the Pina Colada ornament, and then I did the September ornament of the month. So far I haven’t had to use Instagram but I keep seeing you make comments about posting something on Instagram. I don’t have an Instagram account anymore because I could never figure out how to use it
Hi Sandy…. Yes, absolutely! And no, you don’t have to have Instagram. That’s just a place you can share if you *want* to. Since you’re an OG member, you can also share in our private fb group!

Staci, I thought I was hooked on making these beautiful ornaments prior to the challenge but with the challenge my excitement has reached an all-time high! Thank you so much for doing this. It is exciting, challenging and loads of fun! I have never wanted to create ornaments as much as I do now ?
I have just joined the club and absolutley love the idea of the 12 week challenge, unfortunately I am several weeks behind. Would love to get the patterns if possible, are they all listed somewhere or can I even get them?
