beaded wire christmas ornament hooks

beaded wire ornament hangers

I stopped in at my parents’ house the other day and was looking at their Christmas ornaments, and noticed that some of them were hanging on some fancy schmancy beaded wire hangers.  And all I could think was, “WHY HAVEN’T I DONE THIS BEFORE?”

So now I’ve made a couple, and it literally took me 5 minutes. I know this isn’t exactly an ornament, but…it still kind of fits.  Here’s how to do it:

You need:

  • 18 Gauge Wire
  • Some pretty beads (make sure the holes are large enough to fit on the wire)
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Something circular that you can use to curl the wire. I just used the cap of my glue bottle, which worked perfectly.
Thread the beads you’d like onto a length of wire…

And then bend the wire right before and after the beads, in opposite directions from each other… (It’s very hard to straighten the wire back out once it’s bent, so be careful. I wasn’t…oops.)

bend the wire after beads

Now wrap the wire back around whatever circular object you are using, to curl it into the shape you want…

For the top of the hanger, make just a simple hook shape, so that it will be easy to hang on the tree. (I also curled the very end of the wire using the tip of my pliers.) For the bottom though, you can get a little fancier.

Isn’t that easy? I made another hook in an S shape, which was even quicker:

How cute is that?

I ‘m so excited to try your popcorn ornament while my grandsons are her to watch the popcorn pop inside the ornament! They both have autism and get so excited over crafts that I teach them. My oldest grandson LOVES popcorn! (Of course, I’ll try it without them first.)

Awesome, Carol! I hope they turned out for you! :) (I’m so sorry I didn’t see this comment sooner!)

I am looking for clear glass ornaments for painting. The ones I am looking for are not balls, the only way I can describe them are as flattened balls-4″ in diameter, but only 1″ thick. They lay reasonably flat when painting one side, the you can do the other. Hobby Lobby and craft stores have them during the holidays, but off season I can only find balls. If you have any ideas I’d appreciate them-thanks.

I buy through Sunshine Crafts online. Also, do a search for coupon codes to save even more $$

Thanks, Vicki, for the info…I’ll have to check them out. I’ve only found them at holiday time as well, but I’ll keep my eyes open, Kathy….

What did you use at the top of the ornament to attach the beaded hanger to? I’m loving the idea but don’t know how to attache them to the ornament

On the hanger with only one bead how did you keep the bead in place? Looks like it would slide on the wire. Your hangers are beautiful and I am going to try to make some. Thanks for the instructions with photos!!!

How do you attach the wire hanger to the ornament to hang?

    • Staci Ann Lowry on August 15, 2019 at 8:10 am

Hi Cheri… Just loop the ornament onto one end of this hanger. You’ll just have to loop it around the swirled end a couple of times.
