barbie shoes
I’ve been collecting Barbies since I was about 16 years old. 18 years of Barbie dolls reside at my house. I don’t know how that’s possible, since I’m only 23 now….

I can’t help it; I just love Barbie. Most of my dolls are still in the boxes, and even after all the years I’ve collected them, I am still dying to take them out of the boxes and fluff up their dresses and brush their hair and put them in different outfits and all that fun stuff. In fact, last year when I found out Santa was bringing me (I mean, my daughter) a Barbie house, I could hardly wait until Christmas morning so I (I mean, she) could play with it.

So, the other day when we were cleaning up a particularly big Barbie mess, I started attempting to match up Barbie shoes (for fun), and I thought of a cute ornament idea.  I kind of wasn’t sure if it would turn out really awesome, or just really, really silly, but I tried it today, and it is SO CUTE. Well…you might have to be a Barbie fan like me to think this is SO CUTE, but it is. SO CUTE.

Easy, too. Start with a clean, clear glass ornament, and fill it up with some Barbie shoes.

add barbie shoes to ornament

I picked all pink, black, and silver shoes, to keep it all in “Barbie colors”.  I also used all of the littlest, girly ones (which pretty much meant all of the really old ones, because it seems these days, Barbie seems to prefer 10 inch tall clodhopper platform shoes).

Then I painted a few pink polka dots on the outside of the glass. I used Folk Art acrylic paint in hot pink.

When the dots were almost dry, I sprinkled a little bit of pink glitter on top to give them a teeny bit of sparkle. (I used Martha Stewart glitter in Tourmaline)

I brushed off the excess glitter around the dots with a soft bristled paint brush, and then added some tiny black polka dots between the pink dots (I used Folk Art paint in Licorice).

And then, I added one of the beaded wire ornament hooks that I just posted about yesterday…perfect!

Isn’t this so girly and SO CUTE?

I love this, Staci. What a great idea for all the little Barbie accessories that I (I mean my daughters) have collected over the years. I (oops, my daughters) have buckets of those little shoes. I wasn’t allowed to have Barbies when I was little, so I bought lots when I finally had little girls to help me play with them. Now I can make myself (I mean them) some ornaments as keepsakes.

Hahaha! I am so glad that you like the idea! And I hope you (I mean your daughters) love the keepsakes you make for you (I mean, them!) :D

Tiny lego blocks/animals would look gorgeous for the little boy in your life too! Maybe next year :)

That is so easy! except my daughter is still playing with her Barbies! And her shoes are still matching pairs! I prefer the babies that coo and cry. I babysat her Bouncin’ Baby alive most of Christmas day ; ). But I’ll think of something soon enough!

My daughter has not yet asked for the Baby Alive…but I have a feeling that it’s only a matter of time! :)
