My kids and I were really excited to put up the Christmas tree this year, so we got started on it on Thanksgiving. Our scrawny little Christmas tree has been a bit on the wobbly side for a couple of years now, but I was hoping I could make it last just one more season. Well…it made it through the night, but a leg on the plastic stand snapped and it literally came crashing down, ornaments and all, the next day.

But I did get one last picture of it before it came to its dramatic end. We have a little tradition…I hand the ornaments to my kids one at a time and they hang them. Well, my son, Cody, got bored after hanging only a few, so the majority of the first box of ornaments were hung by my daughter Abbi, who is pretty tiny. I had to take a picture of the tree…I couldn’t help but laugh at the placement of the ornaments. There are a few ornaments in the middle and at the top from when Cody was involved, at least…

(And don’t laugh at the awesomely gaudy tree skirt…I can’t help myself sometimes.)

At least I had a good excuse to get a new tree. Here is our new, slightly taller, Christmas tree (after I did a little ornament re-arranging):

    thank you so much!!

abbi was so proud of herself after she hung those ornaments…i just couldn’t resist taking the picture of her handiwork, and we took a few of her standing in front of it too!

The new tree is gorgeous but the other tree has a lot of memories you’ll always have such as the story you just told. We have had a similar experience with a tree disaster so I can relate but it was so funny after it happened. We needed a laugh that day anyway. Your kids did a great job with the original tree and I am sure had fun! I am jealous of the ornaments!

Well I think that tree is the perfect example of a great xmas tree when you have children. Reminds me of my parents…since my daughter always has to decorate the tree…its simply her job!

Wow what a beautiful tree – the lighting in the second one is perfect, like magazine or something!

The new tree is stunning but the old one had a sweetness about it. Abby’s decorating efforts deserve lots of hugs. Thank you for sharing your Christmas story.

I like the wedding one for newlyweds – I like to give them something for the first xmas. What I want to try s 3 different paints all running together – I am hoping to get a look where they run together – I saw some in a store that were a fortune. Anyone every try it??

Hi… These are such wonderful ideas, I have to find some “clears” at after Christmas sales.
I thought of a totally different clear ball ornament… Roll a picture of a loved pet to be remembered, then slip it into a ball I with a lock of fur… and maybe a scrap of blanket.
    A tree full of memories
    Oh, Fun!!!
