Snow Globe Ornament Ideas & Inspiration.
It seems like I’ve been making a lot of ‘Snow Globe’ ornaments lately (in fact, the Cardinal Snow Globe ornament above is our upcoming December ornament kit), and so today, I’m rounding up a few ideas (new and old!) for you…. I hope these give you some inspiration for your own ornaments.
The Snow Globes are so fun because they let you showcase something on each side, like an event, date, birthday…. anything that’s special to you.
I personalized these ornaments for a 1st birthday, with the name embroidered on the front, and birthday on the back…. so cute! (Here’s a post that shows how I do the embroidery part.)
Custom Birthday Ornaments (Snow Globe pattern)
Here is another embroidered ornament… this time for a Baby’s First Christmas. I actually made this one a few years back for a friend, and I used colors to match his crib bedding. Another idea is to use the actual bedding itself, once it’s outgrown! Such a beautiful way to hold on to the memory, and be reminded each year…. rather than holding onto it in storage, where it will rarely be looked at again!
But, embroidery isn’t the only thing you can showcase. How about cross-stitching?
And of course, you can center a fabric picture (or even your own photos, printed onto fabric) on your ornament. A few weeks ago, I shared a picture of the USMC ornament I’d done. Here is the US Navy version (don’t worry… Air Force & Army to come, too!):

Do to no ones fault but my own, I’ve typed this comment 3 times & I’ve done it with one hand &a pencil. So I’ll shorten it. Does your e-book show you the embroidery? I’d like to try & do the embroidery myself, Also des it list all the items you need Can I get them from you?
Hi Linda…. The e-book doesn’t show how to do the actual embroidery part…. it will show you how to use whatever it is you want to center (whether it be embroidery, or cross-stitching, or a picture), and make the ornament out of it. (I did my embroidery on a sewing machine…. I will see if I can find a link to the one I have and come back and add it here…. it was actually a pretty inexpensive one, for a sewing machine.)
The e-book does list all the items you need, but I’ll list them right here for you, too. :)
* A 3″ styrofoam ball
* About 150 straight pins
* 2 Squares of fabric with your image, or embroidery, etc…. with the image itself being somewhere around 2 1/2″ or so, square. The entire fabric square will be larger, and you can trim it down as needed. (And, by the way, this can be approximate. You will be able to work around slightly smaller or larger images – if that all sounds confusing, it will become very clear as you read the instructions and see all the photos in the e-book.)
* 32 rectangles, about 3” by 2” each, of 2 accent fabrics, 16 rectangles of each color.
* About 10 1?2 inches or so of trim or fabric.
* Scissors & Tape measure.

I do carry kits sometimes (https://theornamentgirl.com/blog/shop/), but as of right this moment, I don’t have any available for any of the Snow Globe ornaments. I’ve been toying with the idea of offering kits with custom embroidery, and I had enough interest after my email today that I might go ahead and offer that soon. I know you said you would like to do your own embroidery though, so that doesn’t help you much! I will have many more kits available over the coming weeks though, so you may want to check back here and there to see what I’ve added. :)
See that you say to use 3×2 rectangles. Is this better than using squares? I have been using 3×3 squares and my ornaments don’t always look as neat as ones I’ve seen. Thanks.
Hi Marge…. Yes, I do prefer the rectangles much more. I think it’s easier, and also uses a little less fabric (which really adds up when you’re making lots of them!) :)
I saw a pattern of your it was on a towel with 3 letters It was round with the letters inside it look like embossed on inside. Love your web site very neat patterns. Thanks

My oldest daughter just got married and I thought about making them a snowglobe ornament with their names and wedding date in cross-stitch as the “center” using their wedding colors.
