how to make a quilted fabric pinecone ornament
I’ve just added a new ornament tutorial to my shop. I’ve wanted to get this one done for awhile, but it’s been slow going…these things take me forever to write! :)
This one will teach you how to make a quilted “pinecone” ornament. It’s 37 pages (in PDF format) and has over 50 close up photos of every step (you know how I am about my pictures). I not only show you the basic technique for making these ornaments, but I also give you several examples of variations to try, and even show you a second fabric folding technique.
Also, it’ll be INSTANTLY downloadable from the email you will receive as soon as you check out, which is pretty great.
Anyway, I’m super excited about this particular tutorial, not only because I’ve been wanting to get it done for FOREVER, but also because the possibilities with this type of ornament are virtually endless. There are so many ways to be creative with these…I’ll show you a couple of ideas in the tutorial, and look for more ideas in the future here on my blog, too. It’s not too early to get started on some Christmas presents!
If you’d like to try it out, you can get the tutorial by clicking the “Add to Cart” button just below (It’s only $10). Oh! And you’ll get my bonus tutorial teaching you how to make ribbon bows and hangers for free. (Just like with my quilted ornament tutorials :D)
Questions? Post ’em below!
Here’s what happens when you purchase a pattern from me:
My tutorials are in PDF format, which means they will be emailed to you as soon as you purchase. No waiting!
As soon as you complete your payment, you will receive an email from me, which will contain the links to your patterns.
If for some reason, you do not receive your email, just fill out my contact form, and I will make sure you get it!
I love your ornaments, and have 3 already. Thanks for your sharing, and all of your efforts. God Bless! Mary
Thanks so much, Mary; I truly appreciate it! :)
I want to purchase some patterns but want to know where you find your fabric. I have searched and find nothing like you have used. I especially love the fabric for the quilted pine cone in green and red, Noel. Where will I be able to find this type of material?
Hi Paulette,
I usually buy fabric from JoAnn’s because that’s the closest place for me. Occasionally though, I splurge and go to a quilt shop. The red and green “Noel” fabric was sent to me from someone who works in a quilt shop. Those fabrics can be a little more expensive, but they are super high quality.
A lot of those little shops are locally owned; I know the one near me is. You could try doing a Google search with your town and “quilt shop” and see if anything comes up that might be near you.
Oh, and I’ve also bought fabric here a few times: http://www.hancocks-paducah.com/index.aspx
They carry some of the higher quality fabrics that I’ve seen in my local quilt shop. But… it is a little harder to buy fabric online without being able to see it in person….
I hope that helped a little..
Thank you so much. I have made the pinecone ornaments with ribbon but absolutely love yours. I am going to order a couple of your patterns. Thanks for the information and inspiration.
Paulette, if you use an iPhone or iPad, there is an app that shows you quilt shops in your area. Go on your device, go to the apple store, and search for Quilter’s Club of America. It’s free!! I find it very helpful. It offers shop names, addresses, phone numbers and directions.
Hello, Does the fact that I’m in the UK exclude me from purchasing your pine cone and quilted christmas tree patterns … ? Jane PS Happy Christmas to you ! xxx
Hi Jane…absolutely not! Did you have problems ordering? If so, I truly apologize. I can try emailing you an invoice directly, if that helps.:)
Does the pattern also come in a print out?
Quite Impressing!! I have never seen these type of ornaments. I will definitely try these for Christmas. Such an great idea.
Here is a site http://www.astonishingmail.com/ you can visit for greeting cards and invitational cards.

Hi Fran…. I’m so sorry about that! I am going to try and send the free pattern by email, and maybe it will work that way. Will you let me know if it does? Thank you, and I’m so sorry for the trouble!
Is it possible to get a paper copy of your instructions? I never have luck getting things off the computer.
Hi Virginia…. I don’t have printed books at this time. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience!
I just want you to know your ornaments are beautiful! Have you ever considered making a pineapple ornament?
Thank you so much for the compliment! Someone actually did a pineapple in our Facebook group; it was awesome!
What type of Styrofoam form is used in pinecone ornaments – round or egg shape?
I mostly use round, but you can use either. :)
Hi i purchased the 3 pattern bundle and have tried to make the pinecone ornament but am struggling.. although i have cut my pieces exactly as you said 3inch x 2inch. When i fold them the folded in bits do not hang below the triangle base as yours do… what am i doing wrong? Hope you can help. Thanks
Hi Vicki… I am sending you an email.
Staci Ann, do you have any kits for the pine cone ornament shown above with the red and green noel fabric? I’d love to purchase a kit if it’s available. I also like the pine cone ornament that has red polka dot fabric. Is that kit available? Thank you for your help.

I’m not being allowed to submit this. I’m being told that I’ve submitted this. I don’t think so.
I can not find where I can purchase the kit that goes with the free Pattern you sent me – Betty Gill
