12 Weeks of Christmas 2023 Challenge| FAQ
We've had a few questions come in since I announced the 12 Weeks of Christmas Challenge the other day. So, here are some answers for ya!
Do I have to sign up for this?
Nopers! It's something you can choose to participate in (or not), you do not need to carve anything into a stone tablet, nor do you have to commit to anything. You can even join us for just a few of them if you want.
It's just for fun! :)
Will there be a new challenge every month?
We DO plan to do other challenges in the future (mini ones).
But, this one challenge will take place over about 3 months, taking us right up through Christmas (making this a good time to make some Christmas gifts!). The challenge is to make 1 ornament each week for 12 weeks.
How will this work?
Each week, starting on Monday, September 25th, I'll send you an email telling you what that week's challenge pattern is, and I'll show you photos of mine and my team's, to hopefully inspire you and give you some ideas.
(Not on my email list yet? Well, what are you waiting for? Join me RIGHT HERE. <-- psst. Joining my email list gets you a free video workshop!)
When you make each week's ornament, you can share it with me (& all the other participants) on Instagram using the hashtag #OrnamentGirlsChallenge (and if you're an OG club member, please also share in our private group!)
How much does it cost?
You'll have the cost of your supplies, and if you choose to buy any of the patterns that you may not already have.
What will you need?
In order to make all 12 ornaments, you will need...
1. About 2 to 2-1/2 yards EACH of three different fabrics (this is a generous approximation - you may use slightly different amounts depending on how you arrange your fabrics on your own ornaments. We've been told each year that many of you have some left over when you start with this amount, but we're just trying to err on the safe side.)
****I recommend 3 fabrics that contrast highly with each other.****
2. A LOT of straight pins. I would go ahead and buy yourself a nice big one pound box from HERE.
3. Foam (See a breakdown of exactly what you'll need, right HERE.)
4. Whatever embellishments you'd like to use for all 12 ornaments.
5. Each week's pattern.
What if I don't yet own each week's pattern?
I don't want to leave anyone out, so in order to make this as accessible as possible for everyone to make along with me, each week's pattern will be available at a very special deal! The special price will be for one week only, on that week's pattern. I'll send you a link to each week's special deal when I send you your weekly challenge email. (So make sure you're on my email list!)
Each week's email will say 'Ornament Challenge Week #' in the subject line so you can spot it easily!
(If you've never tried one of our patterns before.... they are FOOLPROOF. And many of them come with full-length videos, too. So, no worries.. you WILL be able to make these ornaments along with me. :) )
Should I cut out lots of little 2x3" rectangles ahead of time?
I wouldn't!
While it's true that MANY of the patterns use 2x3s, there are also other sizes... and on top of that, I can't tell you exactly how to cut everything because I don't know what order/arrangement/etc you'll be using for your own ornaments.
I don't want you to wind up with waste, or too many 2x3s, and then you getting really mad at me. ;)
If you just REALLY want to cut something out ahead of time, I would say cut maybe an eighth of a yard of each of your 3 fabrics into 2x3" rectangles and 2" squares.
What if I get behind?
Please don't worry about that! I don't want this to feel like a race or be stressful. It is just for fun. So, if you get behind, it's totally okay. In fact, the worst that can happen is you only make a couple ornaments... which would still be pretty wonderful, right?
Where do I share my ornament pics with the Ornament Girls Community?
I'm glad you asked!
You can share on Instagram, using the hashtag #OrnamentGirlsChallenge
and/or....
if you're an Ornament Girl Member, please post it in our private FB group!
So.. will you be joining us?
If so, please comment below and say "YES! I'm doing the ornament challenge!" It will just take you a few seconds, and I really want to hear from you!
Yes! I am excited about this challenge and looking forward to the different patterns. I am brand new to this craft and looking forward to learning how to make quilted Christmas ornaments.
Yes ma’am I’m very excited for the challenge. Love this club and can’t wait for the once a month patterns, this will be extra special.

Yes, I’m ready.
Yep. I am as ready as can be.
I’m in for the Christmas challenge.
I am excited to do this year’s challenge. Can I see others work and post on Facebook? I don’t use instagram.
Hi Sandra, we’re so glad you’re excited! If you are a member of The Ornament Girls Facebook group (this is a members only group) than you will be able to see photos. We will also be posting our team’s pictures on our main Facebook page as well as here in our blog.
Yes, I’m definitely doing this challenge. Can’t wait !! It’s always so exciting !!
Yes I’ll definitely be doing the challenge !!
I definitely want to join the challenge. I have been looking through the website and cannot locate any list of ornament patterns for the 2023 Challenge. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA!!
Count me in! This will be my 4th Christmas Challenge. Last year I did all different fabrics – trying to make a dent in my stash ;) This year I’m excited to have gotten my hands on Staci Ann’s choices with her lux fabrics, though I’m tempted by Darlene’s plaid fabric. I don’t use plaid very often but it looks so sharp! Now, off to get more pins!!
Just found out I’m having knee replacement surgery at the end of October, so while I may get a late start on the challenge, it looks like I may have some time on my hands to actually work on some ornaments!

Yes I’m going to try this year. Can’t wait
In Stacis ornament what is the measurement between the 2nd and 3rd row ? She did the 3 fabrics.
