The ideal candidate for this role is someone who loves ornament-ing, is familiar with the Ornament Girl brand, and who strongly aligns with our company values. Please read on for the details.

Overview:

Position title: Ornament & Product Designer

Job overview: I’m looking for a creative and imaginative individual who will join and support our design team to imagine, design, create, and collaborate on our ornament patterns, kits, and other ornament-ing products.

Hours: 20-30 hours per week.

Schedule: Though I am flexible with days/hours, I would like to eventually settle into a consistent rhythm and schedule.

Location: This can be a fully remote position, though if you are located in the Central Florida area and can work in-house at our OG Shop on occasion, that would be a huge plus.

Compensation: Hourly, and will be dependent on skill level and experience.

Benefits: You will need to provide some of your own supplies for testing and creating, because by the very nature of this position, I won’t always know what supplies you will be testing and creating with. However, I will provide you with any foam, fabrics we have on hand to create our upcoming products from, and any of the OG shop supplies you may want to try out in your work.

We do not currently offer health insurance or 401K, but these will be coming in the future.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coming up with unique, original ideas for ornament patterns, folding techniques, templates, kits, supplies, and other ornament products.
  • Collaborating with and supporting me and the OG Team on existing ornament ideas, to help flesh them out and bring them to life.
  • Initiating and collaborating on new product ideas and innovations.
  • Assisting in finding needed supplies for our kits and products.
  • Assisting in writing instructions for designs.
  • Meeting with me on a weekly basis to discuss your work, projects, and progress.

You are a great fit for this role, if:

You are well-versed in no-sew ornament-making, are familiar with OG patterns and techniques, and have a background in crafting (especially relating to fabric).

You have an artistic eye for color, pattern, and texture.

You are creative, driven, and humble.

You are a self-starter.

You are capable of describing and explaining your ideas with clear instruction and communication.

You respond well to feedback, and have an ownership mentality.

The idea of working closely with others on creative projects sounds fun and not competitive.

You strongly align with our company values (Non-negotiable. See below).

It would be an amazing bonus, if:

You have product and/or instructional photography experience. (But, this is not a requirement.)

The Hiring Process:

Apply: Fill out the application linked below. (Serious applicants only please!)

First Round: We’ll interview over Zoom to discuss the role, your experience with ornament-making, and for me to assess your compatibility with our design team and company philosophy.

Second Round: You'll send some photos of your work, and I may possibly request that you send me an example of your work through the mail.

Third Round: We'll work together on a portion of one of our OG current projects, so we can make sure it's a good fit (you will be compensated for your time).

The Ornament Girl Philosophy & Values:

These are the core values that every member of the OG Team lives by, and portrays in their work here.

We always make it right - At our very core, we want to help people and we honestly care. Is a customer always right? Well, even if they aren’t, we will MAKE it right anyway. We make sure every team member and customer feels heard and important. We do the right thing every time, even if it isn’t convenient or hurts us financially.

We Genuinely Care - Helping others is the name of the OG game. We always do what we can to make sure others know how important they are to us. We listen to and serve people beyond what’s typically expected in a business to customer relationship.

Egos are Checked at the Door - It isn’t about us; it’s about our customers. We do everything we can to help them create amazing things. We are not inhibited by perfectionism, and aren’t afraid to try new things, share our opinions, or make mistakes. What we are creating, and what we are a part of, is much larger than us.

We Own It - We have an ownership mindset, we take responsibility, and we do what it takes to get the job done. We make and keep commitments. We do what we say we are going to do.

We Surprise & Delight - We look for ways to go above & beyond. We strive to give more than what is expected. We hope to bring genuine joy to others by helping them express their own unique creativity.
