Custom Happy Birthday Ornaments | OG Inspire

Welcome to my Ornament Girl Inspire Series!

These posts won't take you but a few seconds to read. Each one will simply contain an ornament picture meant to inspire you & give you some new ideas.

Today's ornament(s): a set of custom embroidered Happy Birthday ornaments. (I made these years ago for a twin boy and girl!)

Pattern Info: These ornaments were made with the Snow Globe pattern.

Materials Info: Made on a 3" SoftFoam ball, with custom-created embroidery as the centerpiece. (I've got a blog post RIGHT HERE explaining how to make custom embroidery pieces for your Snow Globe ornaments!)

I used festive, polka-dotted satin fabrics (found at Walmart) surrounding the embroidery,... they looked 'birthday-ish' to me!

Remember: An ornament like this is for decoration only - never let a baby or small child play with these!

Happy Ornament-ing!

p.s. In The Ornament Girls Club, we've got a special group called the OG Marketplace, where members can buy, sell, and swap ornament supplies with each other. If you're an OG, be sure to check it out... there are several of our members there who make custom embroidery pieces for other members.

Thanks for sharing the post. I would like to ask you that from where do get such ideas?

I love the embroidery and I’ve been trying out different options, but I really struggled to get the embroidered fabric to lay flat on the ball. I was using a 3 inch ball and trying to keep the embroidered image to no more than 2” by 2” and the piece of quilt cotton fabric was about 4×4. Do you have my tips for getting it to lay flat? Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Cynthia, I think the sizes you’re cutting the fabric sound about right. I have done embroidery (hand embroidered) before with the snow globe and found that it was tricky to get the embroidered center to lay flat. I had to really just finagle the fabric a lot, pulling it here, tugging it there, and pinning along to try and keep it as flat as possible. I’m going to check with the rest of the team and see if they have any tips to pass along and if so I’ll be sure to let you know. Thanks so much! And happy ornamenting.
