Not even kidding…I bought a huge stash of NFL fabric in every team forever ago, and it has just been sitting there looking at me ever since. Though I have really WANTED to…I could possibly have a couple of new best sellers on my hands!

Anyway, I am happy to say that thanks to a custom request for a Baltimore Ravens ornament, I have finally made one, and I must admit, it came out pretty awesome! So thank you to Jennifer, for kicking my you know what into gear on these! (and for being so patient!)

I decided to do a pattern of the Ravens fabric and purple around a 3″ ball. Right from the get go, I started having difficulties, because there were two different logos on the fabric, and they were different sizes, meaning I had to…measure (gasp!). It's simple stuff, I know, but I am NOT good at math. My brain just doesn't work when it comes to anything mathematical, and that has been a real issue for me with drawing myself patterns for this style of ornaments. Anyway, I got to work measuring each logo, and how much of the fabric I wanted showing on the ornament. The Raven head logo was the largest (and I must say, I have never noticed the creepy red eyes on that thing before…yikes!):

I decided that I would place the logos on the ball in 4 sections. In between each logo piece would be a piece of coordinating purple fabric. This sounds easy. I assure you that it was not. For me. It required measuring the ball, and even subtraction. I had to ask my son for help. (yes…I AM math.)

Once that was worked out, I marked my sections on the ball:

Drew my lines, labeled my sections (because I knew I'd forget!), and cut it out:

Now onto drawing myself some patterns for cutting out the fabric. Using the measurements I already had and adding a little extra, I drew myself some patterns. And these babies will be going into the fireproof vault along with the birth certificates and passports.

fabric patterns

I have no idea how I managed it, but perfect!

and it fits...high five!

Okay, so I added the rest of the pieces of fabric, then made a hanger out of black seed beads. And here it is, all finished:

I have all 32 football teams (there are 32, right?)…so if you would like a specific team, just let me know!
