It can seem tricky to use fabric that has words on it in making quilted ornaments. Since the fabric for most patterns is usually cut into small pieces, and then folded into even smaller pieces, it can seem like the words wouldn't even be readable in the finished ornament.

There are a couple of things you can do to get around this, but here are two of our favorites:

1. Use the text fabric on the band: Since this piece is often a long strip of fabric that wraps the entire circumference of the ornament, it's a great place to highlight a fabric with pretty words - and it will actually be readable..

2. Use text as the focal point of your ornament: Pick a word or two that will fit in the center of your ornament, and use other fabrics to accent it, like in this Snow Globe Ornament...

What other ways do you know of, to highlight text in a quilted ornament?

Happy Ornament-ing!

Staci Ann, I love the fabrics you used with the words and the crosses. May I ask who the manufacturer is and the name of the collection? They are so perfect for an ornament to give to a family member who is a minister.

Bette, Monica found these fabrics in a fat quarter bundle in Walmart. I don’t know the manufacturer name, but Walmart is where she found it. I hope that helps :)

Do you have this ornament in a kit? I love it.

So glad you like it, Debra! No, unfortunately, we don’t have a kit for this one. Sorry about that!

I use fabric with writing on it lol the time. You are right it does not up right side up. This idea is really good. Thank you.
