This is an ornament I came up with a couple of years ago, and I’ve had a whole bunch of people ask me to write a DIY for it.

It’s SO super simple to make (and easier than it looks!), so this would be an awesome one to make for gifts and let everyone think you spent hours and hours when you really didn’t. ;)

What you’ll need:

  •  a clean, clear glass ornament.
  • a white ostrich feather. You can get these at most craft stores, or online.. I got mine right HERE.
  • thin jewelry wire.
  • glass pearl beads.
  • round nose jewelry pliers.

Cut about 25 inches of the jewelry wire, and then use the pliers to twist a tiny amount at one end, like this (this’ll keep your beads from sliding off):

Thread pearls onto the wire ’til you’ve got a strand of about 18 or 20 inches.

Twist the wire after the last bead just like you did at the beginning.

Wrap the wire loosely around your wrist to give it a little bit of a rounded, spiral shape, and then just start feeding one end of the wire down into the empty ornament until you get it all inside. Don’t worry about perfectionism here; just let the strand sit wherever it falls. Seriously, the more imperfect it is, the prettier it will look.

Now feed the feather into the ornament. I find it easier to feed it in from the top of the feather because that end is easier to kind of bend and turn so you can get the whole thing inside.

Pop on the top of the ornament, and you’re done! (You can add a little clear glue around the neck of the ornament if you’re worried about the top coming loose while it’s hanging on the tree.)

Easy, eh? Great gift idea!

OH MY GOSH!!! I love this so much!!! We have an “angel baby” and we have a feather ornament on our tree for our Caleb. I am going to make some of these too to have some more reminders of Caleb on our Christmas tree this year. Thank you for this fantastic, beautiful ornament idea. <3

Hi I was wondering what size beads you are using? They appear to be 4mm…if they are that means I need about 120ish per strand? I needed to confirm the size of the bead so I can calculate the amount I need before I order the beads. Thank you.
